Books: April TBR

April 3, 2019

Sharing my April TBR list! You can check out March here and next week I will be linking up for SUYB to let you know what I actually read in March.

I have been running around like a crazy person the last few months so I am really hoping that April gets me back to my usual reading and relaxing!

#unreadshelfproject2019

The challenge for April is a book that you recently acquired. This is easy since AJS purchased a monthly used book subscription for me for Vday. I got my first two books last month so I chose Mrs. Kimble by Jennifer Haigh.

Girly Book Club

My goals for the year include reading books I didn’t choose for myself. April’s Girly Book Club choice is Fight for Flight by Samantha Young. This has been super helpful in keeping up with that goal. As the host I generally have to read the book if I plan to lead the discussion!

Non-Fiction

Another goal for the year is to read at least 1 non-fiction book a month and I’ve wanted to read Trevor Noah’s Born A Crime for a while. I came across Trevor Noah long before he became The Daily Show host and remember thinking how hilarious and real he was so I am excited to read his story.

Didn’t get to…

I meant to get to Wicked King by Holly Black last month but life. So I put it back on my TBR because it really is a book I have been dying to read!

I like big books and I cannot lie..

I was at half price books browsing as usual and Beautiful Creatures caught my eye. So I read the cover, sounded good and here we go it is on my April TBR!

I’m sure there will be more books but I hope to get through these this month!

What’s on your TBR list for April? Are you doing any reading challenges?

April Goals- March Review

April 1, 2019

Sharing my April goals and reviewing March

There are Blue Bonnets everywhere in Austin right now!

March Review

  • Less Spend – I actually did pretty well on this one. I was trying so hard not to get out of hand knowing I would spend on vacation.
  • Cleaner Eats – Nope. Not even a bit. I don’t know what happened. We ate takeout and I ate so much junk. I am pretty sure it was stress
  • Working out – Guys. I worked out 2x in March. BUT to be fair we walked over 80 miles while on vacation and my fitbit said I was active and at or above my step goal for 10 days straight.
  • Planning– I did a pretty decent job of planning in March. I used my planner often too!
  • Be Present – On vacation I was completely present but leading up and coming back I was not
  • Clean up– Ha. If you saw my closet right now you all probably have a heart attack.

I think that I was maybe too ambitious with my goals considering I was gone for 9 days during the month and had to prep for that as well as make sure all my work was caught up before and after.

April Goals

  • No take out – I think we need to get this under control. We are ordering out too much out of pure laziness.
  • Blog/Insta Planning – I want to get a full month planned out. I think I can do this if I just sit down and make it happen
  • Reading – I have been so busy I haven’t been taking the time to read, which I love enough. So I want to say no more this month so I can have time to lay around and read!
  • Get Outside – the weather has been tricky here in Austin but it is definitely nice enough to be outside way more than I have been.
  • Spring Clean my Closet – Clearly I didn’t last month so I will this month!

I’m ready! What are your goals this month?

Austin Eats: March

March 28, 2019

I love food. If you have been following me for awhile then you know that. Combine my love of food and exploring where I live and BAM we got a post about great places to eat in Austin!

You can see my other Austin Eats posts here.

This week I am sharing two more great places we have tried!

AJS & I love some good BBQ. We also have a friend down here who pretty much tries a new BBQ place weekly. This time I tried a place with a friend who was visiting so neither of them have actually eaten at La Barbecue yet! Yay +1 for me!

La Barbecue

Pictured: Sancho Loco, Chopped, Some Ribs, Coleslaw and potato salad

We went during a weekday so luckily there wasn’t a crazy line but we did still wait about a good 15 minutes. I judge a BBQ place by their potato salad, it’s my thing. I don’t know why other than I love it. The meat here was hot, delicious and tangy. I loved their potato salad! So far of the BBQ places I have tried in Austin this is my favorite. According to the owner who commented on my Instagram photo (OMG I know right?) it is because they use fresh dill and homemade pickles and it is an elevated recipe of their grandma’s! Yes, please and thank you!

Perla’s Austin

Left to right: grilled Octopus, 3 types of Oysters & an oyster shooter

This is another place I tried with my friend when she visited. Part of our Happy Hour mission took us all over to find good deals, yummy drinks and food. Perla’s has $.50 off oysters during their happy hour and I’ll take any discount I can get because you guys know that Oysters be expensive. We choose three different kinds and proceeded to inhale them. The grilled octopus was fantastic and not pictured because I ate it too fast is the pozole I had!

So there you have two new Austin places to try!! If you are ever in the area feel free to reach out and I can give you some recommendations for places to visit and foods to eat!!
