Show Us Your Books: October!

October 10, 2018

A day late…because even though I said I would be better about blogging my friend was in town and it was enough to get on the computer and do homework during that time!
No pics today because I am typing this from my tablet while waiting for a meeting to start!

**Reading Challenge Update as of 10/10/18: 98 of 120 books read for the year!**
Puddin’ (***1/2) I gave it 4 to be generous on good reads but it was a solid 3.5 for me.  I just thought that after reading Dumplin’ that I probably read this one too soon, it was like overkill on teenage drama. I think the story is cute but they can probably be spaced out when read.
The Simplicity of Cider (****) This one surprised me. I loved The Coincidence of Coconut cake so when I saw that this one is by the same author I got excited. I also loved that it was set in Door County because I have been there a couple times and loved it. I wish I could go now because Im dying to pick some apples!
Where’d You Go Bernadette (****) This book is so funky and back and forth that I loved it. I didn’t want to put it down. I realize I am like 5 years late and everyone has read it but I saved it to my TBR list and never got around to it. So glad i did and now I tell you if you haven’t…do it..its fun!
Thunderhead (Arc of the Scythe #2) (****) I was so ready for this book from the library after reading the Scythe.  And ready for the next book to be published! The parts from the Thunderhead are so interesting because they really make me wonder if we could ever get to that point. Not really…but kinda.
Some notable mentions that I didn’t really feel deserve a ton of love….
  • Prudence You may recall that I was reading the Parasol Protectorate series. This is the next series (her daughter) and well..meh. I probably won’t read the rest.
  • Summer Rental Didn’t realize I was reading the 5th book in a series so that kind of threw me off but also I wouldn’t probably bother to find the first anyway.

October 1, 2018

How is it Monday again??

I had the longest and busiest week I have ever had last week! While I am still kind of exhausted I loved it. This new job is definitely pushing my abilities and I am learning new things everyday. With all that said I just wanted to say HI and apologize for being gone a whole week! I’m back this week though!

OOh and Happy October!
For October I would like to….

  • Not lose my mind with all the things I have going on!
  • Go to Yoga at least once a week
  • Go to 3 meetups
  • Blog at least 3 days a week
  • Go on at least 1 hike
  • Check some Fall Bucket List items off
  • SAVE some money(I have been spending like crazy)
  • Get my Thanksgiving & Xmas flights booked for the cheapest price

I have a friend coming to visit today and she will be here this first week, next week I am going back to Chicago for 48 hours for a wedding and the last weekend of the month I am going to Dallas for the weekend! Its going to be a busy month!

Travel Days: A Day in San Antonio

September 19, 2018

We recently decided to take an afternoon drive to San Antonio. Of course, Austinites are constantly telling me how awful I-35 is they were not mistaken. All the construction makes for slow moving just to get out of the city. Not to mention we live north so had to drive across the city first. We didn’t have a plan for the day other than food (of course) and exploring.

Brunch

So we started with brunch at Grayze on Grayson St. Where we had a delicious brunch with an all toooo easy to drink bloody mary. If we hadn’t driven there we probably would have had had 3+ each and then you know…stumbled out.

Historic Market Square

After that we drove over to explore the area. I had read that there was a labor day fest going all weekend so were greeted with a VERY hot and busy place. We walked around the indoor market a bit which felt so much like being in Mexico since a lot of their stuff is from there. Then we walked around the outside area. As soon as I realized I could walk around with a drink in my hand I got a mango margarita in a fun cup and kept browsing!

The Alamo

From there we leisurely walked over to check it out. Since it is free to get in we just hopped in line and got to walk around. I freaking hate people who take photos when it is clearly stated that you shouldn’t take photos so I only took photos of areas where it was clearly allowed. Sometimes I think places are better left seen in person anyway. I was told by quite a few people that The Alamo is “underwhelming” and while it wasn’t amazing (I’ve seen quite some cool places in my travels) I still thought it was a nice visit and I appreciated learning more about what took place there. Also the original area was way bigger than it is now. They had some lines painted into the roads to show you were parts of it actually ended and it was cool to see how much bigger it was, especially with all the buildings and roads around it now.

San Antonio Riverwalk

From there we decided to walk the riverwalk. There was an entrance to head down right across from the Alamo. There is so much going on down there it was great people watching. It is so hard to get over the fact that the water is right there and with the crowds one wrong move and your swimming. Luckily it looked pretty shallow. So many restaurants and touristy shops and vendors. It was fun. We were told it is about 4 miles long but we walked about 2.5 miles of it..maybe a bit more.

Extras…

We were pretty much wiped out by the sun and all the walking so we headed back to the Market Square and decided we deserved some of the well known sweets from the Mi Tierra Bakery(Panaderia) and omg…we may have walked out of there with like 2 bags full. Who wouldn’t?

Then off back to Austin we went! It was a great afternoon of sweating, exploring and shopping! We will definitely go back again soon!

Have you been to San Antonio? Any recommendations for next time?
