Café Con Monica

It’s Monday Again!

March 26, 2018

OOh man I have been slacking so hard on blogging the past couple weeks so I thought it would be a good time for an update!

In the past couple weeks we have…

Gone to Autorama to see some fun old & new cars!

Had dinner at Sugar Factory for the first time and was SUPER disappointed. The food was crap and $35 for a drink that tasted like juice but bubbled and smoked was ridiculous.

Had family dinner at Bd’s Mongolian grill and got to see Thenewguy play with the kids and it was adorable!

Look at him reaching for that…already a little boozey bum

Celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago! Froze our asses because it was damn cold and then headed to Timothy O’Tooles to see my friend Joe the Leprauchaun

I had a terrible stomach bug for a while…that pretty much ruined me. Thenewguy brought me over a whole care package and then refused to sit anywhere near me so I wouldn’t get him sick.
(*teaching is basically working in a germ factory)

Bought our Lollapalooza wristbands for this summer. Then the lineup came out and I almost shit myself with how excited I was!

A Saturday afternoon spent reading on the couch while he plays Fortnight

Friends having babies and revealing genders! **Its a boy!!

and of course there was food…so much food…I’ll share the foods i’ve cooked this month in another post but here are some of the meals we ate out:
Tacos @ Broken English Taco Pub for book club meetup!

BBQ @ Smoke Daddy on a decent weather day

A 2 hour wait to have brunch @ Batter & Berries which was 100% worth it!

And some Thai food @ Sticky Rice!
So that is my little recap of the last few weeks!

Travel Days: The rest of Denver!

March 21, 2018

You can see my first post about Denver: A Concert at Red Rocks here! Now I can share the rest of the trip.

Day 1- Arrive at Union Station

We landed and then took the train into Union Station, then the bus to our Hotel (Hilton Garden Inn) which was perfectly located. We were super early so we just wanted to store our bags. Getting around from the hotel was great because we were a block off the main 16St Mall so we could hop on/off the bus and get around.

We had brunch at Snooze in Union Station and then checked in, walked around and checked out Tattered Cover Bookstore(because books!), had lunch and got ready for Deadmau5 at Red Rocks.

Tattered Cover Bookstore

Day 2 – Voodoo Donuts

We were a bit tired and bit hungover so we were slow moving. We decided to check out Voodoo Donuts

Denver Botanical Gardens

It was definitely chilly out so we went to the Denver Botanic Gardens, and walked around enjoying the sun and warmth inside!

Epic Brewing Co & C Squared Cider

After the gardens we were feeling like a drink would be fun so we checked out Epic Brewing Co and stumbled on C Squared Cider where we hung out and had drinks while playing some of the games they had.

Dinner at Linger

For dinner we went to Linger, which was fantastic! It used to be an old mortuary and I am fascinated by all things weird so we had to eat there.

Day 3: Downtown Denver Aquarium

Another chilly day so we  explored some more by checking out the Downtown Denver Aquarium (don’t do this unless you don’t have one in your city…coming from having access to the Shedd all the time I was pretty sad).

We ate more food, of course, stopped by a couple shops because I was in Denver and its legal.

Denver Biscuit Co

Had brunch at Denver Biscuit Co and again..amazing! I had seen posts from this one on instagram and knew I needed to try it!

We also pretty much took the bus, walked or took short uber rides everywhere we went so we got to really see the city.

We had a great time! It was short and sweet and we both hope to go back in warmer months because we know there are a lot more things going on. Have you been to Denver? Any recommendations for the next time?

March Prompts!

March 20, 2018

Another month for prompts from my class! You can see the others here & here!

– March is Women’s history month. What woman in history inspires you?
OOh this is a hard one because we have some pretty amazing women to look up to. I think I would choose Margaret Sanger right now though. If you don’t know much about her I encourage you to check this quick summary! I very much value the ability to make my choices about reproduction and having the ability to decide whether or not I want children and have ways to protect myself. It is easy to take for granted the fact that we can get birth control and condoms at all.

– National Pi Day! Share your best pie recipe to commemorate the day!
I love love caramel apple pie! I can’t seem to find the photo of the last pie I made but here is the recipe I like to use!
https://sweetlittlebluebird.com/grandma-oples-famous-apple-pie/
– Best story from your high school science class!
I loved Anatomy class and it is actually where I became friends with one of my closest friends. We had to dissect fetal pigs the first semester and mid way through one class our teacher (who was young & super fun) lets out this ridiculously girly yelp and we all crowd around to see what happened. She had been demonstrating something to a table and accidentally sliced the pigs head right off…one of the kids at the table then started to puke. Of course everyone was either horrified or thought it was hilarious but she was just kind of silent and then started laughing so hard she had tears. It was so funny and something that still comes up when I catch up with anyone that was in that class with me.

Not relevant…but still funny
– What is the first sign of spring?
I feel like in Chicago the first sign of spring is any weather over 40…suddenly everyone is outside in their light jackets acting like its summer time. So much pale skin!! Also St. Patrick’s Day usually kind of makes everyone assume its almost Spring since it is in March.
I’d love to hear some of your responses!
