Café Con Monica

on a To Do in Chicago: National Mexican Museum of Art

November 10, 2015

I mentioned yesterday that I went to the National Mexican Museum of Art on Sunday afternoon so I wanted to share some fun facts about it:

– It is in the pretty cool Pilsen neighorhood
– Features many Mexican and Mexican American artists
– Admission is Free!
– Easily accessible via the Pink Line
– They have 4 different exhibits at any time, right now there is a Dia De Los Muertos exhibit I really wanted to see

I haven’t been to this museum in a long time but I really wanted to check out the Day of the Dead exhibit this year. So I convinced my mother & brother to come down from the burbs and join me for the afternoon. I was really glad I made the time to check it out again!

We made the rounds and I thought I would share some of the photos I took from the different exhibits:
This is based on a love story of a warrior and a princess, this painting depicts him taking the princess to the mountains believing the cold would bring her back to life. While waiting for her to come back he slowly froze to death.
This made entirely of small beads!

I don’t like tacos but I would definitely go for it!

I took quite a while with this one….I appreciate art with a political statement

And some of the photos from the Day of the Dead exhibit:

This is one of thew newer paintings they displayed and I absolutely loved it!
Dia de los innocentes- the day to remember lost children

An alter, used to attract the soul of the lost family member on the day we celebrate their life
I really liked this one as it is a more modern representation of the blending of Dia de Los Muertos and Halloween

On Halloween Fun!

November 3, 2015

Oooh man having a Monday off really is a wonderful thing! Shorter week plus extra day to sleep in = a happy me!

I had a great time for Halloween this year and the weather by the time it was “going out” time was pleasantly decent!

The boyfriend and I were Dexter & his Victim.

Let me tell you….wearing saran wrap all night is HOT….not hot like sexy but hot like I melted off a few pounds of sweat. I was sweating my ass off before we even finished wrapping me up completely! But guess what…my costume was the cheapest Halloween getup I’ve ever had and people loved it.

My roommate was really loving her costume!
As we were moving from one bar to the next the bottom of my dress decided to start coming apart and my ass was starting to show….so we had to make a quick stop at CVS to get something to fix it.
You know your friends love you when they decide to document you running around CVS holding your dress together.
We decided tape would be better than more plastic wrap so I wouldn’t have to carry the roll around with me.
All was right in the world after that and we went on to continue the party!
It turned into one of those awesome nights that you hope you never forget!
How was your Halloween??

On Fridays….

October 30, 2015

I am so so very glad that it is Friday and I get a long weekend, no work Monday. It has been a rough week….

I’m  super excited for Halloween! We are doing a fun bar crawl and got a few of my friends and his to come out with us to party! Its going to be cold and rainy though which I am not ok with!

So here are some Friday things….

1. This is what I woke up to this morning

I give no shits if it is clear out…its effing cold.

2. Have you heard of Margies? Well…if you haven’t you should. Sundaes as big as my head…yes please. I have never had a sundae there until this week. I’ve always just gotten a cone or some candy and went about my business. The boyfriend and I each ordered a sundae and OMG.

This is a look of serious concern…..or delight.

3. I am depressed as all shit that I missed the Luke Bryan concert yet again this year. I’m telling you…I just want to go and watch him shake it for me!!! So here ya go!

4. My hair…It is still long as hell! I got a cut and when its curly it looks like a big difference…then I straighten it and BAM…looks like i never cut it!
5. This and it breaks my heart.
When you meet people as an adult you think there is a better chance that you will actually remain friends. You know yourself better than you did when you were 18 and you know what kind of friends you want. When you realize that isn’t what is actually going to happen it sucks. Big time.
So with all that said…I am going to dress up in my awesome costume and get drunk this weekend. I’m going to skype with my far away friends since I finally have a long weekend to do it and Im going to bake…because baking is my stress reliever!!
I hope you all have a wonderful Halloween Weekend!!!!
