March Goals – February Check

March 1, 2019

Sharing my March goals and reviewing February!

February Review

  • Less Spend- Guys. I failed so hard at this, in fact I saved $0 money in February. I am not even sure why or how it happened but it was not smart spending at all.
  • Working out – I can tell you exactly how many times I worked out this month because we have a calendar going (we pay each other towards travel savings when we workout) I worked out a grand total of 5 times all month long.
  • No Take out – HA! There was a week we actually ordered out 2 or 3 times because we were both so tired we didn’t want to cook! We ordered out at least once a week the other weeks.
  • Put the phone down– 25% Again with the trying to grow my instagram and blog I am spending a lot of time at home scrolling and commenting. I have to find a better balance.
  • Blog Planning- I did a lot better this month. I tried to take a few weekend mornings for just blog planning. Setting up posts, editing photos, scheduling. It has been a huge help!

Something about February didn’t go too well for me. It felt like such a long month and that I was constantly spending on things and looking back and being a little annoyed that I was spending so much. We had friends surprise visit us which adds up but we were so excited to see them it was totally fine!

March Goals

  • Less Spend – I need to try this again. We are going to Paris & Amsterdam for Spring break this month and I would really like to have the lead up and return be as close to no spend as possible.
  • Cleaner Eats – I need a bit of a cleanup with food. I’ve left moderation in the dust and have found myself feeling really crummy after a lot of meals so I am hoping to help myself feel better
  • Working out – Going to try this again. I can do better, even if I am just doing something light/short I would love to have some active movement in my life most days.
  • Planning – Because we are going to be gone for 9 days I need to plan for blogging. I don’t want to take a break and lose some of this momentum I’ve gained
  • Be Present – I know my goals always kind of sound exactly the same but because of the trip I think its important that I be present. I want to enjoy it without thinking about everything else I “need” to do
  • Clean up– I’m going through my dresser this month. It’s happening. I can get rid of the things I don’t even wear when I am down to the last bits of clean clothes!

I’m ready. I can do this! What are your goals this month??

February Goals – January Check

February 1, 2019

January Review

  • No Spend – So this was at about an 80%. I didn’t do as well as I wanted to BUT I did really well for me. I didn’t purchase a single thing (books, clothes, random crap) that I didn’t need or have a gift card to pay for. THAT IS huge for me.
  • Cooking– We cooked so much in January. I would definitely say it was a 85% since there were at least two days that we should have cooked but were both not feeling it and ordered in.
  • Planning – 95% I rocked the hell out of my planner in January. I made it pretty, checked it very often and already got started on February.
  • Being Present – I consider this one a big fat fail. With focusing on growing this blog again I have been taking alot of time to be on social media, try to get good pictures and I feel like there are a lot of gaps of what did I do during that time.

I did good, better than I thought but not as good as I could have! I did love seeing the numbers in my savings account jump up when I was able to move over all the money I didn’t waste last month. So these goals are kind of the same going in February with a few added but I want to get these to 90-100% on all of them!

February Goals

  • Less Spend – There are a few things I know I held off purchasing that I really want/need so I will be doing that this month but I’d like to continue focusing on not mindless spending.
  • Working Out– I started to pick back up in January but for February I want to focus on having my body feel a lot less crappy. Back in the gym and to yoga!
  • No takeout– I want to see if we can get through this month without Grubhub in our lives. We waste a lot when we order grubhub and I think we can cook way better meals than what we are ordering!
  • Blog Planning– I am falling into my old habits of working on posts the day before or morning of. I have plenty planned out, no reason to be procrastinating!
  • PUT the phone down – Again. I really need to be present. I downloaded an app that tells me how much time I spend on certain apps and has a limit so I can remind myself when I am getting there!

How did you do in January? Ready to kick February’s goals in the bum?

Meetup: Starting a Group!

January 28, 2019

I wanted to share with you guys a bit about the meetup group I started when I was in Chicago!

 A little background

So let me explain why I started a group instead of just attending meetups from other groups. When I first got back to Chicago there were some really great groups but they were HUGE. Like 1000+ people in them. Eventually I started to notice that the groups were all posting the same events(cross posting) and they were events like “Singles party” “Networking Blah Blah” and they were for 150 guests, coed, or for dating. Even in the group that was specifically for Couples making friends. It made no sense. So I decided that I wanted to start a group of my own and hope for the best.

 The basics

I named the group: “Let’s Make Real Friends” and I put this little blurb in the about section:

  • “It is so hard to make close friends as an adult! There are many groups out there for girlfriends but it still seems to be so hard to make real genuine friendships that last past a meetup with 30+ people. You don’t have to look a certain way, make a specific amount of money or live in a certain neighborhood to make friends and that is what this group is for! We will be geared towards women in their 20’s & 30’s, single, in a relationship and/or married, who like to explore this great city and make new friends! This group is about small meetups and making real lasting friendships. Meetups will be 10 people or less always”

I started the group in September 2017 and it really didn’t pick up until about January. We now have 260 members and I get requests to join daily.  We have great turn out now with a wait list for every event.

 The Good
  • The good is that I have met some really awesome women! I always have people to do something with. If I see something I want to do or a place I want to try I just make a meetup and there is always at least 1 other girl out there who wants to go.
  • Once the group started to really grow people started giving me ideas and offering to host events.
All the events on the calendar for May already!
The Bad
  • People are flakey. Especially people you meet online. Living in a city like Chicago means there are a lot of options for every day of the week and we live in a time where having options makes people a lot less willing to commit.
  • It also takes work. Until people are open to hosting events on their own you are the host for everything. You have to come up with ideas, make the time and keep the group going.

To combat some of this bad…I had to make rules. I had an event in December with a full RSVP list and 10 people on the waitlist. By the time the event started everyone already on the list had cancelled and the waitlist was moved up…which  means no one showed up.  Let me tell you how upset I was that I traveled across the city in the cold to wait outside for 20 minutes before I realized no one was coming. Going into the new year, with the help of a couple girls in the group, I came up with some rules:

  1. No shows are automatically booted from the group
  2. People have to change their RSVP 3 hours ahead of time or receive a warning (2x and they are out)
  3.  Anyone on the waitlist is responsible for attending if their name gets moved up (people rsvp on the waitlist and forget)

Seems kind of ridiculous right? But the point is really that we should be treating each other as we would a real friend.  You wouldn’t leave a friend at a restaurant waiting for you and not show or cancel right? Then we shouldn’t do it to strangers either.

So thats the story of the meetup group and how I get to do all the fun stuff I do around Chicago all the time! I am open to answering any questions or helping out if anyone is thinking of making their own group!
