Show Us Your Books!

December 11, 2018

It’s that time again! Linking up with Jana Says & Life According to Steph for the last SUYB of 2018!

Reading Challenge Update as of 12/11/18 – 135 with 120 being my goal for 2018!

The One that Got Away (****) This one was one of those books that I wasn’t sure I liked or not until about half way through. Zoë annoyed me a little bit and it seemed kind of predictable but I eventually really got into the story.

Darkest Drae Series (****)…Blood Oath was the first book. I ended up reading the whole series because that is what happens when I start. If you like Dragons & weird fey type people and war and love then this a fun series to read.

The Thousandth Floor (****) Ok, so this book I found in last months SUYB and I was at a loss for what to read while waiting for like 20 books to be available from the library. I’m so glad I did. I need the second book in this series NOW. It kept me hooked and I love that it opened up with someone dying and I couldn’t figure out who it was until near the end.

Good Luck Charm (****) Another one from Last months link up. It was a fun read but I really do like books where I get to learn read the build up more so than when characters reconnect.

Tampa (****) This book. I really wanted to not like it and put it down but I couldn’t. It was just well…I mean the whole thing is disgusting but I needed to see how the story went and what happened. I think it’s best to read the synopsis and decide for yourself if you want to read. People in the reviews are really really up in arms about it because of the content but I think that everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Fire & Thorns Series #1-3 (****) Another series I ended up reading after really enjoying the first book. I liked the main character all through the series which doesn’t always happen especially with females.

My only DNF this month was Reign of the Fallen I am not sure if it was the book or the timing so I may try again over break.

What did you read in November?

Show Us Your Books!

November 13, 2018

**Reading Challenge Update as of 11/13/18: 118 of 120 books read for the year!**
October was a super busy month so I don’t feel like I read a lot.

City of Fallen Angels (****) I actually started to re-read The Mortal Instruments series back in September and realized that I hadn’t gotten past the 3rd book. So in October I read City of Glass and then City of Fallen Angels. I decided to take a pause and decide if I want to continue to the next book. This one was good but I also feel like it could have ended there and been good so I am not sure I want to drag it out more.

Crazy House (****) I happened on this book because of one of the 8th graders was reading it and I asked what it was about and voila…I read it. I liked it and was excited to see it has a 2nd book so I will probably read that soon. It is definitely a YA book. I forgot that James Patterson has a few series that are geared toward YA.

A Kiss of Shadows (****) You all know how much I love the Anita Blake series and her 26?28? books and since I read Serpentine in October too I decided to check out the Merry Gentry series. I read this one and then Caress of Twilight and decided I might not be sure i want to continue. It didn’t click for me the way the anita blake series did.
When Life Gives You Lululemons (****)  I am so behind sometimes. I know everyone read this book over the summer but that is ok. I definitely liked it. I definitely did not realize before going in that this has characters from Devil Wears Prada so I was surprised but that made it more fun because I did love that book too.
A Recipe for Disaster (***) Ok so this was one of those books i got free from the kindle emails that I love. I didn’t not like it. I am not a huge fan of the reconnecting romances just because I didn’t get to see the initial falling in love period.
The Woman in the Window (****) I really liked this book. It surprised me which is always nice, I like when I don’t know who exactly is the bad guy or if I think I know something and I am wrong. I saw a lot of reviews that said they knew but maybe I just don’t read enough books like this to get things right away?

There were a few more that I won’t mention..mostly because they were dirty ass romance novels and you guys don’t need to know that much about me!

Bookish Questions: Q&A

October 22, 2018

http://www.amindfulmigration.com/some-bookish-questions-for-me-and-you-too/#comment-3350

I saw this and I had to share. We all know I love to read and have been putting books on my list for my entire life. I think I have honestly read more than anyone I know IRL…not in the blogging world though because some of you are light years ahead of me!

Hardback or trade paperback or mass market paperback?   I prefer a paperback or ebook. Always. Hardbacks usually take up too much space and also I bend my books up and can’t do that with a hardback.

Amazon or brick and mortar? Hmmm well I like to usually get my books from the library or a book store. If I am going to buy an actual book I like to buy them at a brick & mortar store otherwise everything else gets put on the kindle.

Locally owned bookshop or big name chain store? It definitely depends what I am looking for but I always check the local bookstores and goodwill before I buy it at a big name store. Does Half Price Books count as big name?

Bookmark or dog-ear? Both  but more often dog-ear which I know people are like OMG but my books get used and abused but still loved.

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random? My books are in order by size. I don’t have any interest in organizing them otherwise…although I think A might have alphabetized them when we moved into the new place. They are stacked on each other, in front of each other..just a mess.

Keep, throw away, or sell?  I used to have about 200+ books before the “great breakup of 2013” and then I donated/sold to Half Price all but my favorites. Now I try to keep it to one bookshelf…although as I mentioned they are overflowing! My kindle currently has 1000+ books on it though.

Keep dust jacket or toss it? I don’t toss it but I take them off while I read and then put it back on when they get to the shelf.

Read with dust jacket or remove it? Oops answered that already!

Short story or novel? Novel. always.

Collection (short stories by same author) or anthology (short stories by different authors)? I don’t like short stories, never have so I try to avoid them but if I am stuck reading something with short stories I prefer anthologies.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks? OOhthis is hard. So I will not stop until I have to so usually I keep pushing to at least get to a chapter break but sometimes I just can’t keep my eyes open anymore.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”? Both. But I like “It was a dark and stormy night” better than happily ever after.

Buy or borrow? Now that I am trying not to hoard books I borrow as much as I can. If I love a book Ill buy it. If im dying to read it and im #2347 in the library then I will buy it.

New or used? I will always try to get a used book simply because I want to pay less. BUT there is something nice about a brand new book.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger? I like a tidy ending unless the book is in a series and the next book in the series is already out. I HATE when i finish a book and realize its part of a series and the next book isn’t out for months. I also get super angry and endings that don’t make any sense so there is that.

Morning, afternoon or nighttime reading? ALL the time. Anytime I have a free moment I am trying to read. I do most of my reading in the evening but I also read almost every day during lunch.

Single volume or series? I love a good series but I also think single volume books are awesome.

Favorite series? OOh this is hard. I love HP, Anita Blake Series, Sookie Stackhouse, The Chronicles of Narnia, Hunger Games..I have to think of more

Favorite books read last year? Hmmm the Alice Network is top of my list, I really liked Crazy Rich Asian series, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, The Good Daughter…

Favorite books of all time? Ok. so again HP, the Anita Blake series, A Map of the World, The Doctors Wife, Of Mice & Men….Im blanking but there are many more.

I’d love to see your answers!
