On weekend hiking…

November 16, 2015

Hey everyone!! I am actually pretty surprised but for a Monday I feel pretty good. It could be that I didn’t do much this weekend. I had a great mix of organizing, relaxing and even threw some trail walking in there too!

I also got quite a few posts scheduled that I have been meaning to do for some time now…I think that blogging webinar I checked out last week really did inspire me!!
So that said….
I made a meetup to get outside this weekend since I’ve wanted to go for ages and no one ever wants to go with me! We decided to check out Harms Woods out in the burbs.

I was hot….
And of course since we were starving after almost 3 hours of exploring we went to my favorite place
Uncle Julio’s in Old Orchard Mall.

I also managed to get some more of Christmas shopping done this weekend…getting started on my DIY gifts…
Part of my brothers gift!
I also managed to clean my room and the fridge out, meal prep for this week, do laundry, put away summer clothes and take out/wash fall/winter clothes. I’d say it was pretty productive!
How was your weekend?

On Humpday Confessions

November 11, 2015

It is that time of the week again….

Alanna & Company

I confess….

– I am so so so cranky today

– That I am grumpy because I lack carbs in my life…it has only been 2 days but I am pretty sure  I will die today.
– I am finally starting to get back into my blogging groove, it isn’t so hard to come up with things to blog about anymore!
– I am actually excited to go walk some trails this Saturday with some meetup girls! I’ve been wanting to get out more before the weather gets shitastically cold but everyone is all “Eghh I dont want to” so I made an event on one of the meetup groups and the girls were all about it!
– I need new fall/winter everything. All my clothes are like 5 years old already!!
– Even if I bought a bunch of new stuff I still wouldn’t have a clue what to wear or how to match it!
– I am excited for Christmas but not enough that I will decorate before the week of Thanksgiving. I like to properly give every holiday it’s time.
– I am excited for Friendsgiving but stressed because I think my new apartment may just be a little too small
– Also on the topic of my apartment being too small, I was throwing around the idea of another NYE party this year but I’m just not sure I can comfortably fit 20-25 people in my place with the way it is set up!
– Sugar Free jello…not the effing same. not even a little bit.
– I overdid it in my workout yesterday and I am paying for it today…
– I think that is all my grumbles for now…
What are you confessing this week?

on a To Do in Chicago: National Mexican Museum of Art

November 10, 2015

I mentioned yesterday that I went to the National Mexican Museum of Art on Sunday afternoon so I wanted to share some fun facts about it:

– It is in the pretty cool Pilsen neighorhood
– Features many Mexican and Mexican American artists
– Admission is Free!
– Easily accessible via the Pink Line
– They have 4 different exhibits at any time, right now there is a Dia De Los Muertos exhibit I really wanted to see

I haven’t been to this museum in a long time but I really wanted to check out the Day of the Dead exhibit this year. So I convinced my mother & brother to come down from the burbs and join me for the afternoon. I was really glad I made the time to check it out again!

We made the rounds and I thought I would share some of the photos I took from the different exhibits:
This is based on a love story of a warrior and a princess, this painting depicts him taking the princess to the mountains believing the cold would bring her back to life. While waiting for her to come back he slowly froze to death.
This made entirely of small beads!

I don’t like tacos but I would definitely go for it!

I took quite a while with this one….I appreciate art with a political statement

And some of the photos from the Day of the Dead exhibit:

This is one of thew newer paintings they displayed and I absolutely loved it!
Dia de los innocentes- the day to remember lost children

An alter, used to attract the soul of the lost family member on the day we celebrate their life
I really liked this one as it is a more modern representation of the blending of Dia de Los Muertos and Halloween
