Café Con Monica

Three on Thursday!

March 29, 2018

Another Thursday post of Favorites thanks to Steph @ Not Entirely Perfect
1. Chicago Street fests…every year spring time I get super excited for the list of Chicago Street Fests to come out. When it does I all the ones I want to try and get to in my calendar and prepare myself for a lot of drinking on the street and listening to bands while eating food I shouldn’t be eating. If you are visiting Chicago over the summer/early fall I always suggest getting to one and really enjoying the vibes!

2. Lollapalooza…I love music festivals. I really do. I bought a full weekend pass for the first time last year and had an amazing time. (as I was typing this I realized I have not shared my Lolla photos with this blog so look out for that soon) So this year I purchased another full weekend and they released the daily lineup this morning and I nearly shit myself with excitement.

Along these lines #3 would be Summer in Chicago. I love love warm weather and there is so much to do! I do my best to be outside as much as I can even if it is just to go to the lake and sit in the grass to read after work. Being out, getting all the sun and just taking advantage makes winter worth the wait!

It’s Monday Again!

March 26, 2018

OOh man I have been slacking so hard on blogging the past couple weeks so I thought it would be a good time for an update!

In the past couple weeks we have…

Gone to Autorama to see some fun old & new cars!

Had dinner at Sugar Factory for the first time and was SUPER disappointed. The food was crap and $35 for a drink that tasted like juice but bubbled and smoked was ridiculous.

Had family dinner at Bd’s Mongolian grill and got to see Thenewguy play with the kids and it was adorable!

Look at him reaching for that…already a little boozey bum

Celebrated St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago! Froze our asses because it was damn cold and then headed to Timothy O’Tooles to see my friend Joe the Leprauchaun

I had a terrible stomach bug for a while…that pretty much ruined me. Thenewguy brought me over a whole care package and then refused to sit anywhere near me so I wouldn’t get him sick.
(*teaching is basically working in a germ factory)

Bought our Lollapalooza wristbands for this summer. Then the lineup came out and I almost shit myself with how excited I was!

A Saturday afternoon spent reading on the couch while he plays Fortnight

Friends having babies and revealing genders! **Its a boy!!

and of course there was food…so much food…I’ll share the foods i’ve cooked this month in another post but here are some of the meals we ate out:
Tacos @ Broken English Taco Pub for book club meetup!

BBQ @ Smoke Daddy on a decent weather day

A 2 hour wait to have brunch @ Batter & Berries which was 100% worth it!

And some Thai food @ Sticky Rice!
So that is my little recap of the last few weeks!

High Five for Friday!

March 2, 2018

Joining the High Five For Friday linkup hosted by Tif @ Bright On A Budget,
Katie @ Cup of Tea,  Becky @ BYBMG

1. Friday night was pretty relaxing. We were both kind of exhausted from the week so we decided to try another cheeseless pizza night. I am kind of hoping to make this a regular thing because I love pizza and coming up with new things to put on it! We went with 1)Pineapple, ground beef & jalapenos w/bbq sauce and 2)grilled chicken, onions and tomatoes w/guac on the side

2.  Thenewguy has been trying to take me out to his favorite steak place for awhile but its way out in the burbs and I am lazy. We finally got to go to Al’s Charhouse and it was fantastic! The steaks were the size of my head!! So crazy and amazingly priced!

His steak

We should have just shared a steak. Needless to say there were a lot of leftovers!

3. Thenewguy collects these Funko Pops and I have sworn I will not start (I HATE to collect things)But I did mention early on I would only get one if I found a Jasmine (Disney) Pop because they are relatively hard to find…so then he found me one. Recently they released a set and he surprised me this past weekend with the new set! *And I  made him promise there wouldn’t be anymore!

4. Since we are coming up to the end of ice skating season around here Thenewguy and I decided to make sure we went to downtown and got some skating in. Luckily it was a gorgeous (40°) day! We went ice skating at the Maggie Daley Ice Skating Ribbon (where I wiped out hard after a kid flayed next to me)and then walked around, got some coffee, walked to Navy Pier it was a great time. We even rode the ferris wheel, which I haven’t done since my prom forever ago.

 5. What better way to end the weekend than with Sushi. Stuffed myself full of the sushi goodness and learned how to finally use Instagram live! It was a perfect night!
