Some Turkey, Some running and some TV

November 29, 2011

I spent a lot of time in my bed this past weekend. I should be ashamed to have wasted 4 days off of work that way but really, it was fantastic. My mom is on the injured list right now so she wasn’t able to join us in the Naperville Turkey Trot 5K but I ran with some of my other family members and it was fun. I was an unhappy woman getting up so early on a day off but I am very excited to report I got my best time in a 5K yet and I ran most of it alone since my dad opted to help the kiddies run.

After the run we had breakfast and went back to my parents to start cooking and watching the parade. I am the only one left in the family who makes it a point to get up and watch the parade while I bake so I made sure we DVR’d it before we left for the run. It was quite fun to have them watch it with me this year! I made some of my delicious Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies(I will add the recipe to the recipes page tomorrow).

Friday I did manage to leave the house for a bit during the day to do some shopping for myself. I braved Target knowing I needed shampoo badly! I also went with T to have some sushi and see Breaking Dawn for the 2nd time. I told you all I would end up seeing it more than once! We found this yummy and reasonably priced Sushi place by my apartment that had an amazing roll that was actually vegetarian!
Saturday was spent in bed watching Friday Night Lights. I am new to the show and thanks to Netflix I can spend hours catching up! I love love it!!
Sunday I went to my parents and we went downtown to Macy’s to take a picture with Santa…I would share it but my mom hasn’t posted it yet. We had dinner at the Walnut room, which is delicious and lives up to the hype! If you are ever in Chicago check it out!

Cinnamon Toast-Hot apple cider, amaretto and cinnamon!!
My nephew you would not smile in any pictures and was giving us a hard time but we managed to get him laughing in at least one picture!!

Or all it was a great weekend and I am so wishing I could do 4 days off all over again!! Can’t wait until Christmas!!

Things to be thankful for…and some not…

November 23, 2011

I am a day early but that is because I will probably try my best to avoid touching a computer tomorrow. I am getting up unnecessarily early to run the Naperville Turkey Trot 5K with my family in the morning which means I will not be partying tonight like most of the nation. I actually rarely do go out for Black Wednesday, I prefer to sit at home and drink while I bake and get ready for Turkey day. I love the holidays, I wish that we were doing things the usual way going to my mother’s place but one of my cousins called having it at his house first and so I am stuck going there. Not that I don’t love my extended family but when you put that many Puerto Ricans in a house together…well…yea it can get really loud. Anyway on to the thankful and not so thankful list.
– I am thankful that I am here for another Thanksgiving
-I am thankful for my amazing parents, brother, sister and nephew(they make my heart happy)
-I am thankful for my amazing friends and all the emotional support they have given me this year
-I am thankful for my job however frustrating it might be
-I am thankful for blogging and all the amazing things I have been introduced to in the blogging world
-So So thankful for internet w/out it my life would be a mess
-I am thankful that I am finally starting to feel better about my decisions this year
-I am thankful that I dont’ have any crazy things I need to buy on Black Friday so no standing in line
egh….
–I am not so thankful that this is the first Thanksgiving in over 5 years I am single
(I rarely got to actually spend the holidays w/The Boy because of his work but we always enjoyed them)
–I am not so thankful that I will not get to spend this holiday feeling a certain way because of some decisions I made this year.

Thank goodness there is much more to be thankful for than not.
I hope everyone out there has an amazing Thanksgiving.
Eat a ton and hug everyone you love, be thankful for it all 🙂

Men…and alcohol

November 7, 2011

I had a conversation with a friend today about men…actually I had a few conversations about men today. I think it might have been in the air. Back to my point, most women, myself included are attracted to the wrong kinds of men. The bad boys, the losers, the degenerate gamblers, liars, pricks, cheaters, broke ass bums, ooh sorry that last one was just mean. Even though we know these men are bad for us we still find ourselves wrapped up in a blanket crying over them like spilled milk. Men, my friends, are like alcohol.

Now if you have a relationship with alcohol similar to mine you will understand. If you don’t, well you should still freaking get it.

Alcohol is bad. It is bad for you in small quantities, it is bad for you in large quantities. You shouldn’t drink it everyday because well the reality is that is damaging to your body and overall health. We know this right? Its told to us as children, there is a legal drinking age for the stupidity that comes with alcohol consumption. If you are a responsible adult they say you can have alcohol and still be “responsible”. That is crap too since it will still kill you. Yea, you heard me even those responsible jerks that have 1 glass of wine with dinner and not the whole bottle plus some can die from cirrhosis of the liver ooh and they can still be hit by the drunk driving dummy that had the whole bottle plus some.

Anyway, I digress. The point of all of this was that Men are like alcohol. Particularly bad men. The ones you shouldn’t marry or get pregnant by. They are bad for you in small quantities, in large quantities, if you have them every once in a while or every day. They are damaging to your overall health as well. Mentally they drop kick you in the brain and leave you kind of emotionally stupid. If you are lucky they don’t give you an STD or knock you up with a kid they don’t want or beat you. But like I said, they do damage you.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Because it just feels so good. Something about alcohol(duh scientifically we know the reason behind it) but something…that warm fuzzy feeling, the lightheaded giddiness. It just feels so fantastic and you can’t help but keep it going. And then…well then you have too much of it and well we have all had one bad hangover at some point in our lives. Same thing with a bad man. Something about him (again there is a scientific explanation) but something about him when he is around or touching you gives you that warm fuzzy feeling, that lightheaded giddiness. And then…well when he does something that makes you realize he is bad like for example; tells you he is married, cheats on you, steals all your money and disappears, lies about anything.(these are all examples from research of course) and you wake up with this horrendous hangover that leaves you feeling like you took a sledgehammer to the knees.

Basically bad men and alcohol are terrible for you. If you can step away and get into rehab, if you can’t well…your out of luck.
