Café Con Monica

Currently: May

May 15, 2019

This time of year is always ridiculous. My calendar is off the charts with school events and I am going to New Orleans at the end of the month.

Admiring|| Everyone who has travel plans this summer. Even though I actually want to stay in Austin and experience my first summer I suffer from travel envy.

Playing || How long can I go before working on things that have deadlines? No but really just playing all the GOT. We are in Season 7!! SEASON 7! Really hoping to get through it this week before the season 8 finale or we will have to be on a social media ban.

Borrowing || I am always borrowing water bottles from work because I keep forgetting mine and I am too lazy to walk back out to my car for the 8 that are hiding under my seats.

Remembering || My grandmother. With Mother’s day and her passing this time of year I always find myself thinking of her and imagining what it would be like to have her here.

Finishing || Homework. Late. That is really all I can say about that.

And I need to throw a positive one in here so….

Loving || I finally took all the advice about getting content ready and AJS and I spent Sunday afternoon making a bunch of different cocktails to pair with books I’m reading/have read. It was great because I have enough IG content for a couple weeks but also it was so much fun to do with him. Plus we got tipsy drinking our creations!

Mother’s Day!

May 11, 2019

With Mother’s Day coming up on Sunday I like to take a moment to reflect on how lucky I am to be surrounded by some amazing moms.

My Mother

I know i’ve said this many times over but my mom is one of the coolest people I know. She had a rough go of it during her childhood, became a parent far too early (had me at 18 and my sister at 20) and worked really really hard to get where she is. In her early 40’s she up and decided she was going to be a marathon runner and did it. She has bungee jumped, scuba dived, traveled a ton and started two of her own successful businesses all while being a mom. I feel incredibly lucky she put up with my teenage years with every year that passes. She is always supportive of my inability to settle in one place, my need to travel and see the world and my need to learn everything! She kicks ass and takes names and I don’t think she has any plans to stop.

My Stepmonster

She isn’t a monster, I promise. When I first met her at 17, I was an angsty teenager who hadn’t seen her bio father in about 8 years and I was having major troubles respecting my parents back home. She was not that much older than me (think its about 7 or 8 year difference) and was probably not all that happy about having to deal with a teen but she sat me down my second night there and said “I am not your mother, you have one. I love your dad and I love his children and I’m here for you. I can be your friend but there has to be respect. I don’t have to be your step monster.” Guys. To this day she is my friend. We text all the time. Though her and my bio father are divorced I speak to her more than I do him.

My Sister

I could gush about her till I am blue in the face regardless of the fact that she is a mom. I’m mushy like that. She had my first nephew at 22. Kicked ass and took names and finished college while still working and being a good mom. She is now a mother to 3 in a grossly strong and affectionate relationship and every day she questions how she is doing, is constantly seeking to improve and to make sure she gives all 3 kids the best life she can give them. Every year I am amazed by her and so grateful for my amazing niece and nephews.

With all of that said I’d like to say to all of you Mothers out there:

March Goals – February Check

March 1, 2019

Sharing my March goals and reviewing February!

February Review

  • Less Spend- Guys. I failed so hard at this, in fact I saved $0 money in February. I am not even sure why or how it happened but it was not smart spending at all.
  • Working out – I can tell you exactly how many times I worked out this month because we have a calendar going (we pay each other towards travel savings when we workout) I worked out a grand total of 5 times all month long.
  • No Take out – HA! There was a week we actually ordered out 2 or 3 times because we were both so tired we didn’t want to cook! We ordered out at least once a week the other weeks.
  • Put the phone down– 25% Again with the trying to grow my instagram and blog I am spending a lot of time at home scrolling and commenting. I have to find a better balance.
  • Blog Planning- I did a lot better this month. I tried to take a few weekend mornings for just blog planning. Setting up posts, editing photos, scheduling. It has been a huge help!

Something about February didn’t go too well for me. It felt like such a long month and that I was constantly spending on things and looking back and being a little annoyed that I was spending so much. We had friends surprise visit us which adds up but we were so excited to see them it was totally fine!

March Goals

  • Less Spend – I need to try this again. We are going to Paris & Amsterdam for Spring break this month and I would really like to have the lead up and return be as close to no spend as possible.
  • Cleaner Eats – I need a bit of a cleanup with food. I’ve left moderation in the dust and have found myself feeling really crummy after a lot of meals so I am hoping to help myself feel better
  • Working out – Going to try this again. I can do better, even if I am just doing something light/short I would love to have some active movement in my life most days.
  • Planning – Because we are going to be gone for 9 days I need to plan for blogging. I don’t want to take a break and lose some of this momentum I’ve gained
  • Be Present – I know my goals always kind of sound exactly the same but because of the trip I think its important that I be present. I want to enjoy it without thinking about everything else I “need” to do
  • Clean up– I’m going through my dresser this month. It’s happening. I can get rid of the things I don’t even wear when I am down to the last bits of clean clothes!

I’m ready. I can do this! What are your goals this month??
