Café Con Monica

Monday Monday

November 12, 2012

Well it’s Monday again…so quickly.
Remember how I said I wasn’t going to do a damn thing this weekend? Well that was almost true. Even though I had a bum foot and awful cough I still managed to get talked into going to the bar on Friday night. I’d like to say they did a good job convincing me but I really just needed a drink. Unfortunately all the smoking in the bars here made my cough way worse and I regretted it along with the hangover the next day. Then I proceeded to lay about my apartment with my foot up for most of Saturday and Sunday. Sunday night I met up with a director from another school to talk about maybe working some part time tutoring in the side. Score for a free dinner!

So that brings us to Monday. I went back to the hospital today to discuss how the 4 medications I was given have had no effect and how it quite possibly is the pollution that is causing all these problems and not because I don’t drink enough Chinese tea. I was given 4 more medications, told to avoid fried foods, drink more water and not to exercise outside. Yep. 4 more medications. Got to love Chinese hospitals.

So yea…that is my story. Here are some photos to back it all up.

With the teachers at the bar 🙂

Dr.pepper shot…tastes like it. Also what put me into the sick bin!

First set of medications

My poor foot

Dyed my hair back to black! Which apparently my co-teacher does not like it. Know how I know? She told me so today. Said Oh you dyed your hair? I don’t like it. Have to love the Chinese.

My 2nd set of medications 🙁

Excuse the mess, my VPN on my laptop is not cooperating so I have to use my iPad!
How was your weekend???

Weekend Recap…

October 23, 2012

So I know I am a day late but yesterday I got home from work and slept. Woke for an hour made a post on my phone(where most of my pictures were anyway) and then realized I can’t use Blogger on my phone because its banned in China. Yay me. NOT.

So here I go a day late trying to make a post!

It was a good weekend! Friday evening me & SouthAfrican got lost trying to take a new bus to the grocery store. After getting to the end of the line in a not so friendly part of China we realized we were mistaken, walked back about 20 mins and waited for a cab. Turns out we were on the complete opposite end of town. Saturday GCgirl and I went spent the day shopping, had a Starbucks break and then some more shopping and Sushi. It was just like being at home..except everyone around us spoke Chinese and the only store with pants that fit was H&M haha! We met up with a bunch more foreign teachers at the bar and even though I knew I had to be up early for a sunday field trip with my students & parents I got home at 4am drunk. Smarty pants that I am. Sunday was actually quite nice despite my roaring hangover. The park we visited was quite beautiful and the weather allowed me to wear jeans w/out dying from heat stroke.

Sooo now that I am done typing away you can look at the pictures!!!

Guangzhou Safari Park Zoo

October 16, 2012

I promised I would post pics from my trips over the holiday week. The SouthAfrican girl and I decided to go to Guangzhou for the day and were decided on visiting the zoo. I don’t usually enjoy going to the zoo back home because I always feel so bad for the animals but I was wondering what an experience it might be in China.

Let me tell you something I learned while there. NEVER ever go during the holiday because it is ridiculously crowded, unbearable. The kind of manners you are used to back home are non-existant here so imagine a very big crowd with everyone doing their best to get to the front of the line or in front row, pushing, shoving, running and not caring if you are in line. It was very frustrating but we did our best not to get irritated.

So here ya go!

only a small portion of the crowd
the panda was scratching its bum on the wall

just chilling out!
Chinglish
he was sooo close!
picture moment!

So that was our trip. We didn’t see anything surprising which I was hoping for but we did have a good day of it.
