Café Con Monica

Tuesdays @ Two!

November 14, 2017

{1}
It feels like I have been in school forever. Does anyone else ever feel that way? I love learning, I really do. But I am 100% being in school as an adult. I want to not do homework when I’d rather be reading a book or painting my nails, or anything!! That is all. I’m over it.

Did anyone else see the Daily Show bit about Louis C.K.? I mean Trevor Noah is hilarious but really he is so right. At this point I cringe everytime I see an actors name in headlines because Im like “Please don’t let me find out this actor I love is a scumbug pervert…Please!” I’m glad that women are finally feeling they can come forward, it just sucks to realize how many dirtbags there are in the industry.
You can watch it here if you haven’t seen it!

High 5 for Friday!

November 10, 2017

Linking up with Della at Della Devoted, Katie at Cup of Tea, Tif at Bright on a Budget for High Five for Friday!

It’s snowing today…ok, just flurries. But still..there is white stuff falling from the sky and it is cold. IM NOT READY. seriously. not ready. I am not a fan. I don’t like cold weather at all guys…at all.

I was so stressed last night after a long week of work and school and homework that I came home after a late night at work and went directly to the kitchen to bake. I haven’t done that in a long time but it felt so great to zone out for a bit. The result….Salted Caramel Pretzel Choc Chip cookies!

I cracked 100 on my reading list! I set a goal of 75 on goodreads this year and surpassed it sometime in August or September. It has been a good year for just escaping into books and when I looked after finishing a book on Wednesday I realized I had 101 already!

*I still want chocolate and this guy though.

Last Saturday Thenewguy and I went to do some baby shower shopping, had some dinner at my favorite place (Uncle Julio’s) and then went to a bar with some friends to watch UFC. Its been a while since I watched since the most recent ex wasn’t a fan and my favorite fighter was retired. But he came back and, of course, Thenewguy doesn’t realize I have been a fan for years so I know what is going on and bet against everyone I chose. HA. He now owes me sushi.

Look at him…goodness.

I started a meetup group a few months ago and it was slow going at first but it is finally gaining new members and moving along and I’ve been meeting some great people! We are doing a weekly meet & greet after work on Wednesdays that people have been very receptive to it! This past week we went to Green Door Tavern, which i love because its old and eclectic. Only a few girls made it but they were super nice and fun and I am excited to see them again!

I’ve been meaning to make a post about meetup and how I use it…one day I will get to that!
Whats your five this week?

Travel Days: Denver- Red Rocks!

November 8, 2017

Last month I took a quick (3 day) weekend trip to Denver with Thenewguy and it was a great time! I wish we had more time but I hope to return.

On our list was to go to Red Rocks for a show, Get Voodoo Donuts, visit some dispensaries, and just generally enjoy being in a new city and away for the weekend. We got to do it all and more!

Today I just want to share how awesome seeing Deadmau5 at Red Rocks was! We got so lucky that it just so happened there was a show we wanted to see playing that Friday night. We got in super early so we could have time to explore, eat and relax.

Some things to share….

– Everyone told us it would super cold as the night wore on so we layered up. When we first got there it was 73….I was dying. But we were super glad we listened because by 11:00 it was FREEZING.

– The hike up there is not an effing joke. I had to keep taking a break because my chunky butt does not do well with altitude and stairs or inclines.

taking a photo break on the way up…I was sweating by this point

– Sitting all the way up top was sooo freaking cool.  You can see everything beyond the stage and the sound is still fantastic!

View from where we were sitting

– Deadmau5 puts on a fan-freaking-tastic show…which I knew because I went to Northcoast Music Festival in August but still…awesome.

– Taking a shuttle there and back through CID Colorado  for $35(roundtrip) was perfect! We met them up at Illegal Petes and had a nice warm ride there and back! They had snacks and water bottles for everyone when we got back and we didn’t have to worry about how much we drank, looking for parking or driving anywhere.
View from the parking lot we got dropped off at!
and just some more pictures because why not??

The people that played there the year I was born!
