I have been reading reading reading so I’m super excited for this month’s link up with Jana @ Jana Says & Steph @ Life According to Steph
Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty…I was surprised by this book which is always a good thing. I find I often don’t like a book that everyone loves but this one was an exception. It was a great read. I stayed up to finish it and would definitely recommend it.
Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker…Another great read and also why I don’t take other reviews to heart (shes says as she reviews books and reads other reviews in a link up) but really you should always take a look and see if you like it yourself. BUT I thought it was great, twisty, dark and a little weird.
Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows by Sarah J. Maas…Listen I am flying through this series. I read all 4 of those books in a litte over a week and then had to force myself not to download the next book so I could read a few of the books that will be due back to the library soon. I can’t put them down, they are well written and 100% YA books and I don’t even care. Read them if you like magic, fighting and strong female characters!
I definitely do not finish books if I am not into them. I have far too many books on my list to waste time, sometimes I will give it a try if i feel like at some point they will redeem themselves…
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel….this book was part of one of the bookclubs that I am in and I was sorely disappointed to find so many people loved the book and I didn’t even get 50% before deciding it wasn’t worth my time. So boring. Seriously. I chose to do homework over reading the book. That should tell you something.
So those are some of the books I have been reading. Have you read any of them? Did you like them?
Stephanie
Station Eleven gets such good reviews too. I have no desire to read it, glad someone agrees!

Haha, I remember when Station Eleven was getting great reviews and was everywhere but I didn't even care to finish reading the description! Emma in the Night is sitting on my bookshelf and I'm planning to read it for Erin's challenge later this month so I'm excited to see another positive review of it! LOVED Big Little Lies! Did you watch the series? So happy to hear they are doing a second season.
Lauren
I am really curious about Big Little Lies, since the TV show got some rave reviews. I haven't read the book or seen the show though.

Station Eleven is what taught me I needed to be better about DNFing. I read the whole thing and remember the first page, that is it. It was awful. I pushed myself through it and totally regret it. Glad you liked Big Little Lies, I stayed up to finish it as well. Love the throne of glass series! i haven't read the latest one, Chaol's book? I think? i don't think it's pertinent to the story, i could be wrong. but i can't wait for the next one and i hope it's the last lol. my memory is awful and each time i have to read a summary of the previous books.

Wow, sad to hear you didn't love Station Eleven, but it definitely isn't for everyone. It's a little slower than I would've expected but in the end I liked it.
Big Little Lies was so great! Have you seen the show? It's a bit different but overall a good portrayal.
Heather @ Heathers Hurrah
Station Eleven reviews are so divided – it's crazy! Some people love it and others hate it. I might have to try it and see for myself 😉
I loved Big Little Lies – definitely one of the most suspenseful books I've ever read! I wonder if she's writing anything new…it's been awhile!

I enjoyed Station Eleven, but I really like post apocalyptic books. It reminded me a lot about The Road, which was also excellent.
Big Little Lies was great!!

It's always the best when a book lives up to the hype, but I totally know what you mean about trying to avoid reading too many other opinions about things before deciding whether or not you want to read it.

Whew! Yep, choosing homework over leisure reading definitely speaks volumes. You're description of Station 11 sounds very familiar to what some other folks said about the book, too.
Moriarty is an author whom I've not read much of, just one or two books, but I like her. Big Little Lies is on my TBR, I've just not gotten to it yet. So many books, so little time…
Jana @ Jana Says
I haven't read Station Eleven and don't have any plans to.
Big Little Lies is Moriarty's best book.

After watching the series, I really want to read Big Little Lies 🙂

I really enjoyed Emma in the Night too. I liked her debut (I think) All is Not Forgotten too. I am torn about Big Little Lies. I've tried Liane Moriarty twice and did not like either book, and I don't want to invest more time into her, although this is probably the one book of her's I'd enjoy. I may just watch the HBO show instead.
Kristin
Big Little Lies is SUCH a favorite of mine. It was captivating on audio.
I quit one chapter into Station Eleven.

Station Eleven was TERRIBLE. I was angry the whole time I read it. LOL
I had to laugh at your line about not listening to reviews.
Laura Darling
I've been meaning to read Big Little Lies for a while! Thanks for the reminder!
Christina
I've had Emma in the Night on my list forever. I need to move it up! I couldn't even get through 25% of Station Eleven before I quit. It's not good.
